What will happen if i change my major?

ok so iv been in a community college now for 3yrs, my current major is liberal arts/communication... iv failed one or two classes and dropped a lot of others... i hate the classes iv been taking, to me there the same **** i got in high school and i feel there worthless in life and in what i want to do... the teachers here are shitty as hell and the school sucks!

im afraid to talk with my family about changing my major! when i first entered college i was going so i could work up to getting a degree in film, but that was years ago and iv changed and my interests have changed...

i havent told my parents the truth about how well im doing in college or the classes im taking or that iv dropped a bunch... however my first two years i was doing well but then i lost interest, i felt the whole college thing was all just bullshit, and all the teachers were assholes and classes were meaningless...

im not sure my parents will understand why i wanna change the major, their strict. i dont think they understand that its my life and im growing up and changing... music is my passion that i would die for! i live eat and sleep music! i think it would be a positive change and something to give me direction and get me somewhere in life...

my parents compare me to everyone including my older sister, who is has a job as a teacher and graduated a nice big university with here BA in just 4yrs. but they dont understand and dont accept that im not her and thats not what i want to be! im my own person, and i have a path of my own... it might take me longer and be harder for me to graduate than my sister but i will!

what would u do? how do u think i should approach my parents about changing majors? what should i say?

anyway...

im not sure how many credits i have total, probably not many since iv dropped a lot of classes.

but i want to know what will happen if i change my major to say something like fine arts/music?

would i lose all the classes iv taken and passed and the credits i currently have if i changed my major?

what else could happen if i change majors?

once the major is changed, how many more years would it take to transfer to a music university or graduate to get an AA degree, since iv been at the same school for 3yrs going on to 4?What will happen if i change my major?
Why do you feel the need to tell your parents? You're around 21 years old... and it's not their decision what you do.

If you change majors you will still keep whatever credits you have and they'll count towards your major if your new degree plan requires any of them. All that will happen is that it will take you longer to graduate..which is somewhat of a big deal because community colleges should only take 2 years and you're going to be there twice as long, at least. If you are getting financial aid from FAFSA or something then you may lose it soon..there is a limit on how long you can take at any one school.

If you went to another school it wouldn't be an issue though (whenever you transfer I'm talking about here). I can't say how long it'd take to get your AA, since I don't know how many credits you have or what your degree plan calls for. It's crazy that you're talking about possibly staying there multiple more years...you're wasting a lot of time there.

There's no certain time frame that you have to abide by to transfer to a music university...you don't even have to get your AA.. you just need to have a good enough GPA and most likely have to do some kind of audition (being a music school), depending on what you're planning on doing in music. A lot of people go to community college for 1 year and transfer out...not sure why you feel you need to stay there for longer. If you GPA is bad now though, then you will have to to get it up.
