i was looking at how to change major chords into 7 chords, and it struck me, when will i use this? When are 7 chords used in the major scale.?
Hi Rick
Seventh chords are used often, to indicate a resolution and resolving to the root or resolving tothe 4th.
Ex.. Cmajor, changed to C7 would resolve to F major which is the 4th of that chord.
edit.... hey Rick....yes you can and should these to
modulate to a new key. Although often, we use a 7th chord but add an aug 5th which makes a nicer transition. My 2 cents :-)
Also, you can use a min6th or min7th than use the 7th chord. Use split the measure between these 2 chords. Just an idea.
Ex:.... if you are playing a Cmaj7 and plan to change key to , lets say D major 7. Then you can use the following as an idea...
Cmaj7..... Gm6 A7 (optional A7#5)
or
Cmaj7 ..... Emin7...A7
or
Cmaj7 .... Emin9...... Eb9 %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Dmaj7When are 7 chords used in the major scale.?
Seventh chords are wonderful ways to add variety to chord progressions. Try some very basic chord progressions and replace some major chords in them with seventh chords. it would always sound good, but if you figure out a way to use them, then it makes your music sounds better. I love C Major 7. its my favorite 7th chord. try this progression of chords on a regular 4-4 measure.
G D Am C7
Am C7 Em G
Am C E7 E7
If you add a unique rhythym to your chord strumming when you include 7th chords, it will sound better.
Ad for question, when are 7th chords used in the major scale, i honestly dont know.
